Many intellectuals become overly obsessed in their own mental models of the world and abstract systems. They drift, slowly, away from ordinary life, living primarily in language they fail to sense changes in the continual motion of reality. As they disconnect increasingly further from reality, their ability to act and judge coherently with the rest of society, and perhaps standard moral frameworks erodes. In this stage, they embody a kind of oblivious, yet egotistical characterlessness.
