The increased bias of focus on the self in each individual results in belief systems that are less thought through, or time-tested. They are generally superfluous ideals that side-step concepts or issues that may be difficult to grasp because they lay beyond the self.

Two examples:

  • The prioritization of career over the family unit as a manifestation of self progression.
  • The avoidance of personal involvement in discomforting global issues due to the stress they impose on the individual and their inability to affect it directly.
