Asking an AI agent to browse the internet and bring back news is not the right solution for a refined information stream.
The first issue is that currently, it takes too long. You have to prompt it, wait for it to do the research and then come back to you. I want information to come to me which I can then instantly get more detail on or disregard. I want it to prompt me in a way.
The second issue is the lack of quality and detail. AI is really good at giving overviews on the news, but it doesn’t do a good job, in my opinion, of explaining information in highly nuanced detail like a human writer would. It is also not written in a tasteful way that engages the brain through excellent writing.
Finally, the third issue is that it only comes back with what you asked it for. Even in the situation of asking it to return something novel, it won’t do a good job. It’s either not novel or too closely aligned to the interests it assumed I have based on prior information.
To give an example, I recently came across an article about how masks are the cheapest way to make people feel uncomfortable. It is weird, but piqued my interest and turned out to be related to developing human-like AI. That is what I want by serendipitous discovery.
