When you are considering platforms to start your garden on, consider that it is a place you want to be long term. Technologies change and to get the most value out of your garden, you’ll want to consider technologies and options that are flexible, reliable and transferable.

There is nothing inherently wrong with platforms like Notion, Evernote, etc. But some apps and companies make it easier than others to leave their platforms and take your notes with you.

I am using Obsidian and Quartz, because it is all just based on markdown files in my iCloud which are then hosted on Github pages when pushed to the public garden. This gives me ownership, control, two places of storage and enough stylistic freedom to make my garden my own without needing to be a developer.

Digital Gardens Are Never Finished

Link Explanation: If the garden is a lifetime project, it makes sense to plan long term for the inevitability of change and unpredictability that life will throw at you.
