The ideal of authenticity is often misunderstood and misrepresented as an excuse for indulgence, hedonism, or narcissism.

This tinted form of authenticity pushes the individual towards a pattern of thinking that treats everything and everyone around them as a means to an end - to which that end is whatever goals or desires that person has.
