Free markets work so spectacularly because I do not need to trust you in order to rely on the products or services you produce. I don’t need to trust the manufacturer of my car to use the car. The car manufacturer does not need to trust the provider of the parts to make the car. Instead, we know that the other party in any transaction is acting in their own self interest.

The free market aligns the incentives of people so that acting in their own best interest is rewarding, thereby minimizing the need for trust.
