The globalization of commerce has resulted in many situations where the traveller is forced to experience the same consumer delights from home in their destination country. A person can travel from Europe to Canada and find the same shops - Zara, Sephora, McDonald’s, etc. Even if the companies or brand are different, the manufacturers are probably the same or similar.
In many ways, this negates the purpose of moving through the world. It is “going somewhere without actually going anywhere.” It is a safer, more comfortable experience to know you can have standardized food in a new country. There is no risk of food poisoning, or disagreement with your digestive organs. But it is also boring and limits the growth one can experience by spending time in an unknown environment.

Home Comfort’s Effect On Loneliness
Link Explanation: The linked note discusses the idea that modern homes are so comfortable that there is little desire to leave them, which drives social atomism and loneliness. The note above is similar because it essentially describes how globalization brings home with you to foreign countries. In other words, it reduces the differences between home and not-home, which is more comfortable, but drives unwanted outcomes like the opportunity to be pushed to change or consider other ways of living.
